I don't and would prefer we play in claret and blue ... But the club have marketed the third choice strip (after the others sold out!) as our FA cup kit ! .... I would be pissed off if I had I bought for my kids as such

Absolutely, no way should it be worn at home unless there's a really complex kit clash reason. I was all in favour of this until I realised they meant home games too.
Rather like the kit, although I won't be buying it.

To wear it at home at any time is a shit idea. If they want to wear it away then fine.
